Land Planning and Design is an awardwinning land planning and landscape architecture firm that specializes in the planning and design of places for people. We serve a variety of clients in the public and private sector and focus on community planning, design and amenity. Projects include significant park system planning, park design, trails, museums, urban design, community revitalization, economic development, transportation, mixed use development and residential communities for local municipalities, federal agencies, and private development companies.  Projects are located across the mid-Atlantic region.   LPDA works extensively with other partner firms including Architects, Engineers, Environmental Scientists, Planners, Economists, and management consultants. We lead and participate in multidisciplinary teams on small to large projects.  We serve the Mid-Atlantic market with offices in Charlottesville and Sterling Virginia.

Job Description

We are currently seeking a Project Designer  to join our  Sterling, VA  office location and to be available to work between offices. Applicants should be creative, open-minded, collaborative, motivated and possess solid design, graphic, and written communication skills.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities  of a successful candidate include but are not limited to:

Work with both public and private sectors on a diverse range of project types
Assist project teams with developing site development, landscape and hardscape plans through schematic design, design development, construction documents, and specifications
Assist in preparation of cost estimates and construction takeoffs
Assist in the preparation of detailed master planning documents at system wide and site scales.
Prepare illustrative master plans, design plans, sections, perspectives, 3D modeling and animation.
Work collaboratively within landscape architecture and multi-disciplinary design teams
Set professional goals and work to achieve them annually
Experience with 3dS, Sketchup and Lumion is recommended.

 

Qualifications

We are looking for someone with a passion for the type of work we do and a desire and ability to learn and continually improve their skill set. Proficiency in basic commonly use programs is required. Your will be expected to learn on the job from experienced staff and self-direct your own skill development and learning whenever possible.

Skills and Requirements  of a successful candidate include but are not limited to:

Bachelor or Masters’ Degree in Landscape Architecture from an accredited program is preferred. Experience with similar allied degrees or job experience or 1-5 years will be considered
Strong graphic skills using both traditional (hand) and computer graphics programs
Demonstrated proficiency utilizing AutoCAD, SketchUp, Adobe Creative Cloud, (Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign), ARC GIS is a bonus.
Ability to communicate with internal and external colleagues to coordinate and perform assignments
Ability to work through common design problems including design layouts, planting design, detailing, grading and drainage
2-5 years of professional experience preferred but candidates with less or more may be considered
