The Verde at Howard Square achieves LEED Platinum Status

LPDA is proud to be the landscape architect for The Verde at Howard Square, a joint venture between Atapco Properties and The Dolben Companies. This facility recently received its LEED Platinum Status and is the first LEED Platinum multi family building in Maryland. The Verde is a 296 unit apartment building that is garage parked. Commonly referred to as a ‘Texas Donut” (we have no idea what Texas has to do with this) or a wrapper building the construction style employs a prefabricated parking garage that is the first element of construction wrapped with a stick built series of buildings. The top of the parking deck was outfitted with a solar array that generates 15% of the total power consumption. The facility also maintains a 43% water reduction, a 40% energy savings, and 91% of the construction waste was diverted from area landfills.

LPDA landscape design programmed high usage courtyard spaces, one of which utilized a deck space over an low impact development stormwater feature. LPDA was also able to convert the required site coverage for landscape as required by Howard County to a concept that was appropriate for the building and site programming.
