Danville, VA – LPDA has provided master planning and final design services for the Danville River District (downtown area) area over the past several years. The design program has included a reconfiguration of multiple blocks of Main Street and Union Street, a downtown park design and the creation of Main Street Plaza. The Main Street Plaza serves as a gateway to the downtown area and received its official ribbon cutting this week by local leaders. Main Street Plaza includes improved access to the Dan River Greenway, cafe space, a pedestrian promenade created by the conversion of a vehicular roadway to pedestrians, and the central fountain, sponsored by JTI Tobacco. This lighted, variable height fountain symbolizes the seven blocks of the Warehouse District and the central link of the Main Street Plaza to the Warehouse District, Main Street and the Dan River.
