Focus on Small Projects #2 – A New Plaza Fixes a Flooding Situation

Sometimes small projects have big impacts. In this blog post we focus on the Fi tness Center Renovation at the Piedmont Club in Haymarket. Built in the 90’s Piedmont Country Club features an incredible set of amenities centered on residential housing. At construction the Fitness Center building elevation was set too low causing flooding in big storm events. LPDA was hired by the owner to develop a remediation for the flooding problem. The solution was to build a portion of the project out of permeable pavers and drop the center of the plaza into a rain garden allowing the water to have relief in large storm events.
